Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom) is a controversial 1975 film written and directed by Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini with uncredited writing contributions by Pupi Avati. It is based on the book The 120 Days of Sodom by the Marquis de Sade.

Because of its scenes of intensely sadistic graphic violence, the movie was extremely controversial upon its release, and remains banned in several countries to this day. It was Pasolini's last film; he was murdered shortly before Salò was released.

Widely regarded as the most disturbing film of all time.

I make this thread only as a reference, for the disturbing films thread.

Too late. I am already in the process of acquiring it. You should not have made a thread about it if you did not want to advertise it.

Then have fun.

The quality DVD versions of the film (not green colored picture and missing scenes) cost upwards of $100 in some places.

If you're downloading it, well that's another story.

I'm saying though, I would not wish anyone to see it. I wish I hadn't seen it.

Just watched it, film got more and more sadistic as it went on, kind of made the abrupt ending justified.

Justified as in appropriate, or justified on well-deserved.

I was glad when it ended.

Justified as in it was appropriate, the penultimate scene was pretty gruesome. I read though that it doesnt even scrape the surface of what was in the book =/

I finally got around to watching this, and it was pretty gruesome and twisted. A lot of sadistic shit, sometimes literally, in this movie and I can see it being controversial.

maybe not plenty and not all films but most are foriegn independent films, I will list a few when I get back from my vacation

Just finished watching it, It kind of reminded of Sheindler's List.

and I have to agree with Hito, the ending wasn't really satisfying, it kept on building up but finished before we even got to see their faith in full.

I wanted to see how it ended up for them, (whether they died in the end or if for some stupid mirecale they surrvived), I wanted to see their death/life after.

The ending was the only part that was gruesomely disturbing, the rest was just about bareable but I can see why most people wouldnt be able to watch through it.

And I have to say as far as film standards go yeah this movie has passed all taking advantage of the time it was made, since if it was made at the current century it wouldnt get permission even recording I bet XD

The comment one of them made in the movie, There are ways to kill more than 1000, just reminded me of this book on crime I read once in high school liberary, which had an article on a torture for a guy who attempted to kill the king/queen in (I think) England many many years ago, what they did to him was to cut about just a spoon full of his flesh from about 5 parts of his body (not vital parts), and poor melted metal on each wound, the melted metal would stop his wounds from further bleeding (keeping him alive) and at the same time gives him unblievable amount of pain, and repeat.

It amazes me sometimes how strong a human body can be and how it can survive the unimaginable.
