One Piece RPG Discussion Thread!

Hello and welcome to what could be a great RPG here at MangaGround! Relatively the third most famous manga currently, One Piece is getting to be very popular. With the Anime, Manga, video games and more, almost everyone has at least seen Luffy's straw hat once or twice.

My name is Old Skewl CJ, and some of you have most likely heard of or played with me on the forum of One Piece HQ. I would like to note personally that although I may be using some characters of origin there (you may remember Kusu and Hil), this is a completely separate RPG. There are major differences that should be noted.

1. Luffy and his crew exist and their events will play a role in the RPG.

2. None of the characters, unless recreated in this forum, from OPHQ will be in the RPG. But possible references may be made, but not completely altering.

3. There will be one pirate crew for now until the RPG grows. But Marine characters can be made.

I would really like to hear your opinions! Note that this is all not solid as of yet, so comments are appreciated! Until then, hope to see you guys soon!

Well, I have been considering to join some RPs, mainly to help with my writing skills. So this here is something I find interesting and would not mind joining. Although, since I am relatively new to the "RP scene," I might wait and see how you all operate before I decide to join.

Hm... You need just one pirate crew to for now? I would suggest recreating Qwerty's crew, but he might be a bit too evil to start out with. That doesn't mean he won't be in the RP, he'll just show up later.

We already have a captain character set up. My plan is to most likely start the RPG in Mocktown or Water 7. There the characters can meet him and some of the other members already on the crew, like two. We will most likely have a background topic as to how it all started but for practical purposes we will start the RPG in a big city or town.

The shutdown of OPHQ could last anywhere between one week and two months. I do not know the exact details but much of the recent additions to the forum will be lost such as topics and posts.

It would be a similar but different world to that of the One Piece RPG there.

I got a kick ass charachter idea so I think I should join as long as this won't end up like most of OPHQ RP:s which suck ass.

And for my charachter idea he is going to be super genius guy, with unhealthy ego thinking that he can do everything. Basicaly he is super skilled (maybe even too strong) but thanks to his ego he always handicaps himself, like not beeing able to use hands or stuff like that.

For charachter developement it won't be that much about growing stronger, because it's not really necesary, but instead realizing his own limits.

EDIT: OMFG I read some of the bios. You gotta be kidding me, right? Especialy the cat guy. Newb's pie loving charachter is obviously comic relief (or atleast I hope so, otherwise I will shoot myself), but a freaking cat! C'mon!

Thats what I thought. So its up to her to approve the characters, so if you do not mind, please refrain from making comments on other people's characters. If there is a problem, I am sure CJ will let the person know.

But seriously, if you are only going to make a character because you felt like it at the moment, and don't plan on RP'ing maturely (that meaning you are serious when you need to be, among many other examples), then don't bother at all. What the problem here seems to be is that the two profiles in question are being labeled as "joke" characters. They wouldn't be if you spent a little more time thinking about how your character should be, which relates back to RP'ing maturely.

Also, I must mention that if you think people aren't taking your character seriously, that can easily be fixed by adding more descriptive words to your profiles and going in depth into why your character does such and such, unless something is to be revealed later on as the RP progresses. And please be reasonable if your character has a random ability (i.e. the ability to write and speak despite being an animal) and go out of your way to describe why if it applies to you. Although this is a One Piece RP, there is no reason for anyone to make a character that defies all bounds of a normal human without the help of devil fruits, which are purposely created to give beings abnormal abilities.

I read Newb's and Kylor's character profile, and while it is not my place to say, I can see where your concerns come from Sprite. Its like Hex said, they are being labeled as "joke characters." But, since it is CJ's RP, its up to her.

I understand why many of you would have doubts about my character. After all, he's a cat. But trust me, it ain't no joke character. I intend to be completely serious when I Role Play as him. Now, Hex made a very good point about how the ability to understand language despite being a cat might seem a bit crazy. Well, I explained why he can do that in his profile, and I'll leave the rest to suspension of disbelief. Anyway, I created the character knowing the limits I would have, and I plan on being fully consistent with those limits. And sure, he does have comedic elements, but doesn't everyone?

My character is comic relief. I plan to take this seriously and all but I will be making jokes and stuff. Its not like I'm going to make it totally random that doesnt follow the plot in the least bit. He will follow the plot and he will be serious some of the times but other times he will be joking around and what not when nothing serious is going on. Hey Mise, you should create a character thathas a DF ability called the Gill Gill no Mi or something. Basically, the ability allows the person to grow gills underwater, but considering that water negates the DF ability, its completely pointless and the said person would be a hammer.

Or create a Fishmen/Merman with a DF ability.

In other news, Kusu L. Lolliette from the original One Piece RPG at OPHQ will most likely be chosen as the captain now. Sprite_Knight and I have discussed this and will get back to you all with more information later.

Although on the other hand, Kusu being in the RP would most likely lead to some very interesting interactions with my character.

Kusu will have a different background then she did in the OPHQ RPG. She will be as perky as she was but when it comes to being a captain, you'll be in for a shock, but it really depends on what you expect.

And as for your character, yes. It'll be very interesting, Kylor. XD

Normally, we're talking 12. In battle, she'll be more or less 16 to 17. Her maturity will be far more different than she was in OPHQ but for comedic scenes, she will retain her naive nature.

Comparing to the past RPG, about a year. So Kusu would actually be 13 (and Hil would still be around 17 XD) and much more matured in her fighting capabilites, enough to suit the role of a captain.

It is undecided as to when the RPG will be starting around the Straw Hats' point. Perhaps Enies Lobby or Thriller Bark will do the job. We will most likely not interfere with them, but we might receive news of them along with other crews.

True, I made Takai strong, but he rarely uses the more powerful techniques, as they are one-shots, draining all of his power. He tends to use the more practical ones, like defense or healing. The lower-tier attacks are powerful but easy to avoid. Yes, he is very powerful, but not unbeatable, even 1on1.

- Kusu and Nick came to mock town, looking for a crew.
- For some MEESTEEREEUS reason, she already knew who was going to join.
- They got attacked by two mercenaries, and a very large amount of marines.
- Now, most of the new crew are on the ship.
- They've driven off the marines, and now once everyone gets to the ship, they can leave.
- A large marine ship floats offshore, potentially waiting them.

I do have two arcs set up for you guys after this. And the story will continue once Kara decides whether or not he will join the crew or do something completely different. I'm not sure what will happen personally, but that's an RPG. And I love it when I'm surprised.

The next arc will be mostly comedy but the arc after that will take for a serious turn. I will reveal more when they come closer.

While I don't much care, I should say that directly touching it would do something like turn the person into a watermelon or cause an earthquake.

It's covered in belts for a reason.

Of course, it's entirely up to you, what you want it to do to your character. It just shouldn't do nothing.

But Sam didn't knock any out. She didn't even harm any. So there wouldn't be any need for them to carry off the injured ones, as there weren't any. And she wasn't near Kara, so there wouldn't be any need for them to aid the ones kara had taken down...

As far as things went, they attacked her, and maybe once in awhile, their weapon turned into a rubber chicken or something.

Unless they're telepathic or something, I don't see why they should abandon their mission of taking down any intruders. And as things have turned out, they have... In a way...

If you're in control of the Birrels now though, then you're in control of Sam's body.

We can say that the initial greeting is in Birrel, as a traditional formality. It just drives home the detail that Sam and a Birrel have switched bodies, if Sam shows up among the ranks of the Birrels, making bear/squirrel noises.

But yeah, Sam's body, inhabited by a (hopefully female) Birrel is now yours to control.

I have a question that I would like to be answered before I continue RPing. Can the Bear Squirrels speak the One Piece animal language? Or just English? And while we're on this subject, can the RP characters that are half human and half animal, such as Kusu and Kizuna, speak animal language as well?

First Question: The Bear Squirrels can speak both the animal language and the Common Language. They seem to prefer the human language though and mostly use that one.

Second: I am aware that both Takai and Kizuna can understand animal language. Kusu, however, only seems to understand birds. This explains the reason the whole bird eating situation was a big part to her given rules.

Yes, DO control her body. Keep in mind it is inhabited by a Birrel though. The watches have no bearing though, and will go off when you see fit. Whether the Birrel in her body can shut them off is another story. Her body won't be able to lift Lucky Break though.

And yes, Sam is very unfortunate. These unlucky happenings, compounded with the horrible crew she is stuck with, will only hasten the destruction of her mind, and her departure.

These next two arcs, Sprite Knight has come up with the idea for. I've gone through them carefully and edited what is necessary and you will find that they are going to be a lot of action and fun. I would consider them to be joined together, much like Alabasta had several arcs.

We are looking for original arc ideas so feel free to PM them in and I'll consider them. However, they won't be used until about three arcs into this but hey, if you've got ideas I'll be happy to hear them.

Well, the whole idea started when Sprite Knight asked me: What would happen if Kusu from OPHQ started a pirate crew? I felt that it was perfect, that an already established character could bring new ones into an OPHQ. Takai and Kizuna were not originally planned but they are a nice addition.

Also, I have been bothered more than once about Kusu's and Hil's profiles. I will try and get them up tonight, if not tomorrow. All of you guys worked to post profiles so I feel that I should do the same.

I'm actually fine with this RP being sort of like a sequel to the OPHQ RP, as pretty much everyone here is from OPHQ to begin with. My only problem is it raises too many questions, such as the question of whatever happened to the Chaos 8? And why is this new villain group that recently appeared so much like them?

Certainly yes it was Sprite's idea.

And as far as the Chaos 8 and stuff goes, like Mise said, it's an indirect sequel. In this world, the Chaos 8 may or not exist like they have before. For example, the characters Connor and Beth Anderson most likely exist but will almost never appear in this RPG. So they could exist but they most likely will not be affecting it.

Also, another question thought of, most of the original Shichibukai from OPHQ do not exist though it is confirmed that Uzo, the Metallic Falcon, does exist (but that's only because otherwise Kusu would not be here which will be explained once I throw up those profiles). The reason for this is that I want to keep it as close to the original One Piece world as we can. If a situation arises where an original Shichibukai is needed, I'll be glad to support it, just given the right reasons.

Another thing, some OPHQ characters may be reappearing as shadows of their former selves. As Shark a' Pult said before, (and note that just switching Kusu's name just for the sake of a new RPG), many characters may reappear but just with a different name, and most likely a completely different story behind them. So if you want to have a character like this appear after the next three arcs we are doing, just message me and we'll figure it out.

No, but that's what I'm talking about. This RP is supposed to be a challenge, similar to betty's RPG with the end of the world. However, I guarantee that your characters will be able to survive unless you intend to kill your character off. You just have to be creative, like with what you two just did.

Also, I adore original arcs from players. Please, if you have an original arc idea, send it to me in a private message! Because although we might not be able to play the exact arc, I can incorporate its ideas and plot into another arc to better suit your character and others playing as well.

I think this has to do with me as Kara seemed to be not affected by the hit. For a charachter that can't move it will just end up being absorbing more and more hits and Kara will sooner or later start to feel pain when getting hit again and again.

Now that I think about it not being able to move is rather boring limitation as it makes fight very repeative.

Also note that, even if Kara's "endurance" is great. And a badly bleeding arm, his arm will be useless in one or two more direct hits from the Bone King. Its no push over, I'll post later today.

On another note, I want to warn you guys that there will be an even at the end of this arc where the crew is required to be, well, defeated. The only reason I tell you this is so that you are offended when the time comes as we might have to "God Mod" your character's defeat for the story to continue. Note that there won't be any permanent or temporary damage that will change the course of the RPG. It's just one of those things that needs to be done so that a better one may come out of it. This will not happen for some time though.

Also, Dunkan's story is getting good! Pay attention to his as well as all of the other posts. I guarantee that you will be pleased.
